Mental Health Illness Awareness Week: Write your state legislators!
October 6, 2016
This Mental Health Illness Awareness Week, write your state legislators and urge them to close Florida’s coverage gap and expand access to health care – including mental health.
Imagine yourself or a friend or family member dealing with a mental health issue and unable to afford access to quality mental health services. For too many of our fellow Floridians, this is reality.
When it comes to supporting and providing access to mental health, Florida ranks near the bottom compared with other states. Florida is currently 50th in mental health funding per capita and 44th in access to mental health services. This is a challenge we can start taking on by expanding Medicaid and closing Florida’s health care coverage gap. This gap affects nearly 600,000 Floridians. These are our friends and neighbors who don’t make enough money to qualify for subsidized health insurance through the Healthcare.gov Marketplace, and make too much money to qualify for Medicaid.
Take action now and write your legislators: tell them it’s time to close the coverage gap and improve access to mental health throughout Florida.
Thanks for taking action during Mental Health Illness Awareness Week on this critical issue that affects all Floridians.
